Recently, I have been seeing a lot of comments online, where women are complimenting other women and saying how beautiful they look in their photos. Now while I’m all for women complimenting other women, how can you say someone is truly beautiful if they wear a face full of makeup, fake eyelashes, weave, and other things that help “enhance” their beauty?
Seriously! Let’s think about this for a second.
How do you know if she’s really beautiful if you can’t even see her real face? What about her real hair? Why is it that men absolutely hate when women wear these things, but women encourage it? Are we truly looking to be beautiful or are we just competing with other women?
I too, find myself occasionally staring at other women and thinking, “wow she looks great” and then worrying that I may not look good enough or that I may not dress nice enough on a daily basis. However, after the amazement period is over, I realize that, yes she looks amazing, but she also has a ton of make up on.
How am I supposed to know what you REALLY look like if you’re COVERING your face?
Sometimes I think that I too, as a young woman, should be wearing makeup daily to look more, you know, like a woman should? But I honestly don’t care for makeup, as it hides the true me. One of my biggest fears is getting so used to wearing makeup and loving how I look in it, that I forget what my true face really looks like.
I am in no way, shape, or form knocking women for wearing makeup, however, I am just wondering why some women feel that makeup is absolutely necessary! There are women who will not leave their homes without makeup on. Are you really that afraid of letting others see the true you? What kind of message are we sending to our younger generations, people? (Not a very good one I must say.)
So if men appreciate and usually prefer women without makeup on, why is it that we don’t?
And this my friends, is why I have decided to start my #ThisIsTheRealMe challenge and blog series! I would like to see what women REALLY look like, without the makeup, or the weave, or the fake eyelashes, even if it’s just for one day, or just that one selfie to submit. I would also love for women to understand that makeup is not necessary! That even if they go without it for a day, people will still think they’re beautiful!
I will be posting the photos that are submitted on my blog to show the world just how beautiful we REALLY are!
So, if you’re not too scared to show others the REAL you, go ahead, wipe off that makeup, take the weave out and then take a selfie! (The only thing you need to wear, is a smile! Oh and clothes people, please don’t forget to wear clothes! Lol) Submit your photo below, along with the other information and be apart of my blog series!

I do agree that women shouldn’t feel makeup is necessary, but for me, just like those who express themselves through fashion or the music they listen to, makeup is a form of self-expression. I love to try new products and see how they make me feel, I’m not trying to hide behind the makeup, but I love how empowered I feel when I’m happy with how I look. I can walk down a road with my favourite makeup on and think “yeah, I look good!” I completely take your point, but I don’t personally think that there is anything wrong with express yourself through the medium of makeup even if it may ‘enhance’ your beauty 🙂 xx

Girl I know! Lol I have no problem with people wearing makeup, it’s just the people who think it’s necessary (aka people who can’t leave their house without it on). I love makeup artists and how great they can make someone look, but in this day and age a lot of young girls are growing up thinking they HAVE to wear these things to be considered beautiful, which is totally wrong. Nothing wrong with feeling good, but if you can’t feel the same way when you walk out the house without makeup on and all the other extras, that’s also another issue. But thank you for commenting! 🙂

I guess so, I do agree that the beauty blogging world – although I absolutely love being a part of it – can be a little damaging to young girls and their views of the world and themselves! I think it’s most important to just let people be who they want to be, if that’s someone with a full face of makeup every day then fine, but if it’s someone who never touches the stuff then that’s equally fine. No problem lovely, I really like your writing style 🙂 xx

Wow! I recently wrote this as well! I called it the perfection obsession because that’s what it seems like we’re all obsessed with these days. Perfect weaves and contoured faces, it does get pretty annoying and you have to check yourself when you find yourself either indulging in it, or feeling like you’re not pretty enough.

That being said I think it’s really great that you’re doing this! Not too many girls feel comfortable in their own skin and we need a reality check when we start indulging or don’t feel pretty enough.

I almost hit the fan when I was doing my nails at the salon & saw girls who looked about 16 getting fake eyelashes. I’m like wdh!? Smh! Something has to be done!
