Book Review: The Help By Kathryn Stockett

NRN Book Rating: B+

the helpI know, I know, I’m pretty late with this review, especially since the movie came out (what feels like) years ago! But I still haven’t seen it and that’s because I wanted to wait until I read the book. (Everyone that’s anyone, that actually reads, knows that the book is always better than the movie!) But this book was nothing like what I expected, especially after hearing such great reviews when the movie came out. Of course, the storyline about what happened when people were maids, and how they actually helped the families that they took care of more than some of those families would like to admit, was great. But I needed something more! I needed more excitement! I actually wanted them to get caught, to see how they would be punished. But none of that happened, and I finished this book quite disappointed. When I was done, I sat for awhile and just stared at my iPad. (Yes, I have a kindle app, please don’t judge me, it’s the easiest and cheapest way to read while traveling.) I was so disappointed at the ending, which I won’t give away, and how the book unraveled once it hit the climax. If there had just been a little bit more excitement in this book, I would have given it an A, but unfortunately there was not, so I’ll give it a B+.
